Basic Language Skills - Introduction

Dyslexia is characterized as difficulties with accurate and automatic word recognition and by poor spelling and decoding abilities. These difficulties are unexpected in relation to other cognitive abilities and can lead to poor comprehension and reduced vocabulary development. Through coursework in Basic Language Skills and intensive supervised practicum, participants learn how to plan, deliver, and measure instruction in phonemic awareness, decoding, fluency, oral language, comprehension, and composition for students with dyslexia and related disorders. Audience: Reading and Dyslexia Specialists, Tier III intervention Teachers Objective: Dyslexia instruction; Tier III instruction
